Why is Bermuda Pink Sand pink?

Over the ages, red tiny organisms called foraminifera grew under the coral reefs and died on the ocean floor. These along with bits of corals and shells get washed up on Bermuda's beaches, mix with the pale sand and gives a pink hue to the sand.  Here is an article on our unique pink sand in Bermuda's daily newspaper.

Will I be purchasing the exact same sand piece that is pictured on your website?
No, each Bermuda pink sand piece is hand made using natural elements; there will be slight variations. However, the silver and gold designs will be the same as well as the coloured gemstones.

What is your jewellery made from?
All our jewellery is made from sterling silver, 14kt gold, 18kt gold, 14kt gold filled or 18kt vermeil. All of the gems are precious or semi-precious gemstones

What exactly is gold filled?
Gold-filled jewelry is a thick layer of 14 kt pure gold over base metal. It is over 100 times thicker than regular gold plating. It is a great in between gold plating and solid gold because it will last for years and years, but it it a lot more affordable than solid gold. However, since the top layer of gold is so thick, please treat it like pure gold when cleaning.

What is your return Policy?
Merchandise must be returned within 10 days, unworn and in original packaging accompanied by an original receipt.

I am buying the necklace as a gift. What length chain would you suggest?
If you are unsure, we would suggest you go for the middle option 18 inches as that will fit most people.

My piece is starting to tarnish. What is the best way of cleaning it?
Because it is a piece of metal that gets handled quite a bit, a piece can lose its shine. However with just a bit of love and care you can make it look as good as new very easily. We suggest using a standard jewellery polishing cloth to remove tarnish and restore its shine. We sell professional grade polishing cloths with polishing compound embedded in the cloth. Click here if you wish to purchase one.

Why does my jewellery tarnish?
There are a few factors that play into jewellery tarnishing and how fast it happens:
  • Humidity - If you live near the beach your jewellery will definitely be more likely to tarnish.
  • Lotions and perfumes - If you wear lotion and perfume, we suggest that you avoid the spots where your jewellery will lie.
  • Acidity levels - We know it sounds a bit random, but if your body has high acidity levels, your jewellery is actually way more likely to tarnish. Just a little fun fact for you!

How do you avoid letting your jewellery tarnish?
The best way to avoid letting your jewellery tarnish is by storing it in a airtight plastic ziplock bag when not wearing it. Another interesting fact is that the more you wear your jewellery, the less it will tarnish. So its in your best interest to wear your Jewellery every day :)

Can I wear my jewellery in the shower?
We would definitely advise you not to do this if you want your jewellery to look its best. However, if you do, you will have to make sure you clean it more often.

Why do you spell Jewellery funny?
I grew up in Canada using British spelling for words and moved to Bermuda, a British colony, many years ago and they spell the same way. It makes us a little different. More colourful you might say! It is something refreshing and quaint for our US neighbours?  It shows a sense of humour :)
